U.S. Visa Ban: Kogi Deputy Gov Reacts To Checklist Of ‘Affected Politicians’
The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Edward Onoja, has reacted to a purported listing of Nigerian politicians banned from getting into the USA for his or her alleged involvement in electoral misconduct over the past Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections.
The U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, had on Monday introduced that the American authorities had imposed visa restriction on some unnamed politicians concerned in electoral malpractices throughout the governorship elections that held in November 2019.
Pompeo mentioned the U.S. had additionally prolonged the visa ban to some politicians whose current actions are able to undermining the forthcoming Edo and Ondo governorship polls.
“In July 2019, we introduced the imposition of visa restrictions on Nigerians who undermined the February and March 2019 elections,” Pompeo had mentioned, including that, “At present, the Secretary of State is imposing extra visa restrictions on people for his or her actions surrounding the November 2019 Kogi and Bayelsa State elections and within the run-up to the September and October 2020 Edo and Ondo State elections.”
Following the pronouncement, a preferred Nigerian on-line newspaper had revealed the names of politicians allegedly affected by the U.S. visa ban.
The report talked about the previous governor of Edo State and former Nationwide Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, amongst these affected by the sanction.
However Kogi Deputy governor, Onoja, refuted the report, saying the U.S. didn’t point out the names of these affected by the visa ban.
Onoja was responding to a member of the opposition within the state, Austin Okai, who had taunted him over the report.
He mentioned in a tweet, ”…Austin Okai, all the time on the lookout for comfort the place there isn’t any hope. See you hyper excited over Saharareporters’ pretend information.
