
Senate rejects Akpata, confirms seven others for Federal Place
The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointments of seven nominees to the Federal Competitors and Client Safety Fee.
This was simply because the Higher Chamber rejected Mrs. Yinka Osoba Akpata as Government Commissioner to symbolize the South West on the Fee.
The affirmation of the nominees adopted the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Funding.
Chairman of the Committee, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi (PDP- Osun East), in his presentation stated that the panel advisable Akpata’s rejection because of her failure to seem earlier than the Committee for screening.
The nominees confirmed are Barr. Emeka Nwakpa, Chairman (South-East); AVM Wakili Abdullahi Ahmed, Non-Government Commissioner (North-West); Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi, Government Commissioner (North-East); Babatunde Irukera, and Government Vice Chairman/CEO (North-Central).
Others embody Ben Obi Nwoye, Non-Government Commissioner (South-East); Theophilus Oyebiyi, Non-Government Commissioner (North-Central); and Ayang Francis Eyam, Non-Government Commissioner (South-South).
In the meantime, the higher chamber has forwarded six affirmation requests by the President, Muhammadu Buhari , to related committees for additional legislative work.
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, throughout plenary referred the President’s request for the affirmation of the Chairman and Members of the Nationwide Fee for Individuals with Disabilities to the Committee on Youths and Sports activities.
Additionally referred have been the requests for the affirmation of Professor Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman, Impartial Nationwide Electoral Fee; and nomination of Professor Abdullahi Abdu Zuru as INEC Commisioner.
Each requests have been referred to the Senate Committee on INEC chaired by Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC – Kano South).
