BREAKING: 38 inmates escape from police custody in Enugu

There’s pressure in Enugu State on Monday after over 38 criminals reportedly escaped from police custody.

 

The inmates had been remanded within the custody of the State Police Command for numerous offences.

Police sources instructed The Punch on Monday that the inmates numbering between 38 and 40 escaped from the police cells on the State Legal Investigation Division, contained in the State Police Headquarters on Sunday evening.

Our correspondent gathered that these inmates had been remanded by Justice of the Peace Courts on the police cells in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

It was learnt that the offenders had been saved within the police custody due to the congestion of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Enugu.

When contacted on the phone, the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdurrahman, didn’t choose his calls.
